The 54th International Theatre Festival will take place from June 7 to 21, 2026, under the direction of Willem Dafoe. The program features performances and meetings with some of the most important figures in contemporary theatre, alongside productions created within Biennale College Teatro, the training project dedicated to young artists.
Willem Dafoe began his artistic career at the age of 19 with Theatre X (1975–1977), one of the first experimental theatre groups in the United States. In Europe, where he moved in 1976, he worked with the legendary Mickery Theatre in Amsterdam, a key hub of the international alternative scene. In 1977, in New York, he co-founded The Wooster Group, with which he performed until 2003.
