The Historical Regatta, held on September 6, 2026 in Venice, is a traditional rowing competition with ancient origins, likely linked to both the Feast of the Maries and the training of Venetian crews. Documented since the 13th century and depicted in 1500 by Jacopo de Barbari, it has become a symbol of the city and gave its name to boat races across Europe.
Before the races, a historical parade recreates the 1489 arrival of Caterina Cornaro in Venice, featuring colorful 16th-century boats and costumed figures representing the Doge and Venetian authorities, celebrating the city’s glorious maritime past.
